About Me

Experienced Counselling Professional

With over 20 years experience as a counsellor, I established Counselling at the Bay Tree in 2006.  I came into counselling from a background in language teaching, and because I found out for myself how helpful counselling can be. I love counselling because I am always interested in people's stories and finding out how they have come to be where they are in life.  In this way, everyone's counselling is unique, and I work in different ways with different people.  I have a Masters Degree in Psychodynamic Counselling, and Senior Accreditation with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.  I am also a supervisor of counsellors.

Individually suited to you

Psychodynamic Counselling

At difficult times, it can be a great support just to come and talk to a professional in a secure comfortable environment.

Psychodynamic counselling is also teamwork, as we go on to explore your life's journey so far, your present situation, and your future options.  We will also look at your unconscious feelings and conflicts.  Understanding yourself more deeply helps you to get your life heading to where you want it to be.  Common reasons for seeking counselling are: loss and grief, anxiety or depression, relationship problems, work-related stress and burn-out, transitions to new life chapters, or just feeling stuck or trapped.  At these times, counselling can be a rewarding investment for your life and your future.

Face to Face Individual Counselling

Weekly appointments at the Bay Tree Therapy Centre in Christchurch. My therapy room is quiet and comfortable, and easy to get to.  Choose what you would like to work on, go at your own pace, and finish when you are ready.  This is for individuals, over the age of 16.

Walk and Talk

If sitting in a room for a counselling session is not for you, you can opt for a walk and talk session at Hengistbury Head.  It can be a lot easier to talk freely as you're walking along and enjoying one of Christchurch's most beautiful places.  You're welcome to get in touch and ask me about this.

Client Testimonials

Thank you again so much for your help and support, it has been a fantastic experience, with highs and lows but overall so much has been learnt and I couldn't have done it without you.

'D', July 2021

Susan helped me to make sense of the difficult events I had experienced in my life. She gave me the tools to understand and manage complex emotions, and held me as I navigated an ever-changing situation. Throughout my counselling, I felt listened to and understood, in a way that nobody else could make me feel. Susan phrased things in such a way, that I could make sense of them. This helped me to process what was going on and ultimately make peace with the trauma I had experienced.

'When I started counselling a year ago I was suffering from COVID anxiety and slipping into depression. During that time I have been able to acknowledge feelings of loneliness, find some strategies to manage difficult family issues and move forward in my retirement. I am grateful to Susan who has been alongside me on that journey.'
